Review summary
Based on recent reviews

The Garland is a popular choice, conveniently located near Universal Studios with a handy free trolley service, and also close to a metro station, making it easy to explore LA. Guests love the inviting pool area with its bar/lounge, and many appreciate the spacious, beautifully decorated rooms-some even recommend requesting a 7th-floor room with a balcony. While most find the hotel a great value, a few guests have reported unexpected charges after checkout, so it's always good to double-check your bill. The outdoor movies by the pool are a hit, and the on-site dining at The Front Yard receives positive mentions.

free shuttle shuttle service theme decor nice decor timely shuttle reliable shuttle broken door non-functional door working refrigerator faulty refrigerator bright clock annoying clock
The shuttle to universal was GREAT. it was always on time, i really appreciated it. the rooms had in-theme decor. It seemed like an updated 70s hotel. the free shuttle saved MUCH money on transport.
The sliding door was not functional. That surprised me. the refrigerator BARELY worked. the bedside clock was bright. It kept me awake.

the freeway noise disturbed my sleep every night. the sound seemed constant even with closed windows, its vibrations affecting my room. the parking fee seemed excessive for the basic facilities provided.

noticeable noise excessive fee
the staff were very helpful and polite. the rooms were adequately cleaned each day.
i was somewhat disappointed. the room i booked, the family suite, faced directly the freeway and the noise was noticeable. i found it hard to get a proper rest with the constant traffic sound. also, the self-parking fee of $39 per day felt rather excessive.

fresh towels peaceful setting limited parking basic breakfast
The Front Yard restaurant offers AMAZING food and service. I loved the setting, so serene and peaceful. The room I stayed in was cleaned every day and the staff provided fresh towels. They have water refill stations available, so thoughtful.
I found the parking a bit difficult in the evening. Spaces were not always available, inconvenient. Breakfast at $23 per person seemed very basic. Next time, I would order from the menu instead.

minor issues

unavailable drinks inattentive staff
i was a bit disappointed with the service at the pool bar. several drinks i tried to order were unavailable as they were out of stock. it wasn't a huge problem. but still a bit frustrating. also, i thought the pool area staff could have been more attentive. it reminded me of there was a noticeable difference between them and the servers in the front yard restaurant.

Really good Stay Near Attractions

hotel gym quality toiletries shuttle service
The hotel gym included three treadmills and two stationary bikes. I found complimentary toiletries from a quality brand in the bathroom. The shuttle service to Universal Studios was very convenient. I used it daily, and it saved a lot of time and hassle.
The pool area was sometimes crowded with families, so finding a quiet spot could be a challenge.
Rooms
9/10
The room included two separate sinks and a rainfall shower. A comfortable king-size bed was ideal for restful sleep. The provided steamer helped keep my clothes wrinkle-free. The room also featured blackout curtains ensuring a dark sleeping environment.

the hotel pool was lovely. it had good service and yummy cocktails. the location was perfect for many activities. warner bros studio was nearby, also universal and griffith park.
the parking was expensive, $50 a night. i found the staff to be rude and uninformed. the cleaning staff, however, was lovely.
